Motion Terms
Determine Motion of moving objects
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Point of Reference | a point that is used to measure the movement of another object |
| Motion | An object is in motion when the distance between it and the reference point is changing |
| Scalar | quantity is one that has amount, but NO direction |
| Vector | quantity is one that has amount AND direction |
| Distance | how far an object travels Does NOT depend on direction |
| Displacement | difference between an objects starting position and its final position. Displacement its a vector quantity because it depends on direction. |
| Speed | the measurement of the change in distance over time. |
| Velocity | the measurement of the change in distance over time. |
| Acceleration | The measurement of change in velocity over time |
