| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Point | An exact location in space. |
| Line | A straight path of points that continues without end in both directions. |
| Line Segment | Part of a line between two endpoints. |
| Ray | A part of a line that has one endpoint and continues without end in one direction. |
| Angle | Formed by two rays or line segments that have the same endpoint. The shared endpoint is called the vertex. |
| Right Angle | A 90 degree angle |
| Straight Angle | A 180 degree angle |
| Acute Angle | An angle less than 90 degrees ( 1 to 89 ) |
| Obtuse Angle | An angle greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees ( 91 to 179 ) |
| Intersecting Lines | Lines in a plane that cross at exactly one point. Intersecting lines form four angles. |
| Parallel Lines | Lines in a plane that are always the same distance apart. Parallel lines never intersect. |
| Perpendicular Lines | Lines in a plane that intersect to form four right angles. |
| Trapezoid | At least 1 pair of parallel sides |
| Parallelogram | - 2 pairs of parallel sides - 2 pairs of sides of equal length |
| Rhombus | - 2 pairs pairs of parallel sides - 4 sides of equal length |
| Rectangle | - 2 pairs of parallel sides - 2 pairs of sides of equal length - 4 right angles |
| Square | - 2 pairs of parallel sides - 4 sides of equal length - 4 right angles |
| Line Symmetry | Can be folded about a line so that its two parts match exactly. |
| Line of Symmetry | Divides a shape into two parts that are the same size and shape. |
