Measurement and Data

varies a situation that could have many DIFFERENT answers
dot plot a visual display in which each data piece is represented by a dot above the number line
interquartile range the difference between the upper quartile and lower quartile (IQR)
asymmetrical a shape of data that is NOT identical on either side of the center
mean the sum of data divided by how many there are: AVERAGE
survey a questionnaire, a tool used to gather information from people
mode the data number or category that occurs MOST often
range the DIFFERENCE: greatest value minus them least value
upper quartile the median of the upper half of the data (seen in a box plot)
histogram a type of bar graph whose bars represent intervals of data
lower quartile the median of the lower half of the data (in a box plot)
median the MIDDLE value when data is ordered least to greatest
categorical data data that are sorted into categories by qualitative characteristics like eye color or favorite type of music
measure of spread a single number that describes the SPREAD of data
symmetrical a shape of data that has the SAME number of values on either side of the center
