| coordinate grid/plane | formed by 2 number lines that intersect at right angles |
| ordered pair | a pair of numbers that gives the location of a point on a coordinate plane |
| x-axis | the horizontal axis in a coordinate plane |
| origin | the point where the x-axis and the y-axis intersect |
| order of operations | the ordering rule for evaluation expression (PEMDAS) |
| base | in a power, the number being multiplied |
| exponent | in a power, it is the small raised number that says, "How many times?" |
| independent variable | the first number in an ordered pair |
| dependent variable | the second number in an ordered pair |
| expression | a math phrase with no equal sign; contains number and operations |
| prime factors | breaking down a composite number and writing it as the product of prime numbers |
| equivalent expression | expressions that have the same value |
| quadrant | the four regions created by a coordinate plane |
| y-axis | the vertical axis in a coordinate plane |
