Lesson 13-14 (8th)
Math 8 - Lesson 13-14 Solving basic Linear Equations
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Linear Equation | an algebraic equation involving only a constant and a non-exponent (linear) term. |
| slope intercept form | y=mx+b |
| standard form | Ax+By=C |
| point-slope form | y2-y2=m(x2-x1) (numbers are subscripts) |
| expression | In math, a sentence with a minimum of two numbers or variables and at least one math operation with no equal sign. A math operation is the action (multiplication, division, addition or subtraction) |
| equation | Two expressions that are equal in value. |
| distributive property | multiplying the sum of two or more addends by a number will give the same result as multiplying each addend individually by the number and then adding the products together. |
| addend | A quantity to be added to another. |
| coefficient | a numerical or constant quantity placed before and multiplying the variable in an algebraic expression. |
| rational number | Any number that can be written as a ratio (or fraction) of two integers (positive and negative whole numbers) |
