TermDefinition
Platitude (noun) commonplace or trite saying, esp. one expressed as if it were original or significant
Dilettante (noun) one who has great interest but little knowledge; a dabbler; a lover of fine arts who follows a branch of knowledge for amusement only
Galvanize (verb) to excite or arouse to activity
Effusive (adjective) unrestrained or excessive; pouring forth freely
Candor (noun) frankness, honesty, openness, sincerity; impartiality
Pique (noun) fit of resentment; irritation of feelings caused by a perceived slight indignity; a feeling of wounded pride. (The verb form may mean "to arouse" as in "the commercial piqued our interest".)
Malign (verb) to make evil, harmful and often untrue statements about; to slander, to wrong, to injure
Peremptory (adjective) absolute; decisive; not allowing contradiction or refusal; urgent (don't confuse with "preemptory" which is doing something in anticipation of some other event in a preventative manner)
Wheedle (verb) to coax, to persuade, to cajole by flattery or guile
Decorum (noun) code of governing correct behavior; conformity with established standards or manners
Cavalier (adjective) unconcerned with what is considered important; nonchalantly unengaged, especially with regard to serious matters
Penultimate (adjective) next-to-last; (often thought of as "final" but it is not)
Rusticate (verb) to move (a person) to the country; to accustom to the country
Saturnine (adjective) moody and morose; gloomy
Endemic (adjective) indigenous; characteristic of a certain place, region or populace
