Heredity Passing of traits from parents to offspring
Dominant trait A genetic trait is considered dominant if it is expressed in a person who has only one copy of the gene associated with the trait.
Gene A segment of DNA on a chromosome that codes for a specific trait
Probability A number that describes how likely it is that an event will occur
Homozygous An organism that has two identical alleles for a trait
Phenotype An organism's physical appearance, or visible traits.
Hybrid Offspring of crosses between parents with different traits
Genotype An organism's genetic makeup, or allele combinations.
Purebred An organism that always produces offspring with the same form of a trait as the parent.
Heterozygous An organism that has two different alleles for a trait
Allele An alternative form of a gene.
Recessive trait a genetic factor that is blocked by the presence of a dominant factor
