| Base | In a power, the number used as a factor. In 10 to the power of 3, the base is 10 that is 10 to the power 3 that is 10 to the power of 3 = 10x10x10. |
| Exponent | In a power, the number that tells how many times the base is used as a factor. In 5 to the power of 3 the exponent is 3, that is 5 to the power of 3= 5x5x5 |
| Power | a number expressed using an exponent. The power of 3 to the power of 2 is read three to the second power or three squared. |
| Evaluate | to find the value of an algebraic expression by replacing variables with numbers. |
| Numerical Expression | A combination of numbers and operations. |
| Order of Operations | The rules that tell which operation to perform first when more than one operation is used. |
| P.E.M.D.A.S | Parentheses,Exponents,Multiplication and Division, Addition and Subtraction. |
| Algebra | A mathematical language of symbols, including variables. |
| Algebra Expression | A combination of variables, numbers, and at least one operation. |
| Coefficient | A numerical factor of a term that contains a variable. a number attached to a variable. |
| Constant | A term without a variable. numbers without a variable. |
| Like Terms | Terms that contain the same variable(s) to the same power. |
| Term | Each part of an algebraic expression separated by a plus or minus sign. |
| Variable | A symbol, usually a letter, used to represent a number. |
| Common Factor | A number that is a factor of two or more numbers. |
| Greatest Common Factor | The greatest of the common factors of two or more numbers. |
| Least Common Multiple | The smallest whole number greater than zero that is a common multiple of each of two or more numbers. |
| Distributive Property | To multiply a sum by a number, multiply each addend by the number outside the parentheses. |
| Factoring The Expression | The process of writing a numeric or algebrac expressions as a product of their factors. |
| Equivalent Expressions | Expressions that have the same value, regardless of the values of the variable(s) |
| Simplest Form | The status of an expression when it has no like terms and no parentheses |
| Commutative Property | The order in which numbers are added or multiplied does not change the sum or product |
