[ por + sustantivo ] Hernán Cortés vino a las Americas por fortuna y fama.​ Hernán Cortés came to the Americas for (the motive of) fortune and fame. ​
[ por + pronombre ] Los aztecas tenían que hablar español por los conquistadores.​ The aztecs had to speak Spanish because of the conquerors. ​
[ por + infinitivo ] Cortés y los conquistadores conquistaron a las Américas por llegar en barcos.​ Cortés and the conquerors conquered the Americas by arriving on ships. ​
En general, para indica destino, finalidad o propósito.​ In general, para indicates ​the destination, finality or purpose.
para + infinitivo ] Hernán Cortés y los conquistadores llegaron a las Américas para conquistar.​ Hernán Cortés and the conquerors came to the Americas in order to conquer. ​
