| Term | Definition |

| CMYK | The colors in the yearbook are created in this color space. Th colors on your computer are created in RGB. |
| Pica | The little boxes on the yearbook,a unit of measurement equal to 1/6 of a inch |
| Gutter | The space in the middle the crease of the book |
| Folio | the page number located at the bottom of the page |
| Closing | The lastpage in the yearbook |
| Copy | All the text on a page |
| Ladder | A basic organizational plan that lists yearbook spreads with the subject of each page. |
| Layout | The arrangement of the page elements. |
| White space | The empty space on a page that prevents overcrowding. Also called negative space. |
| Serif fonts | Fonts that feature serifs, the small decorative projections on letter strokes. Used often in headlines. |
| Sans serif fonts | Fonts that do not feature serifs, the small decorative projections on letter strokes. Used often in smaller text for ease of reading. |
| Spread | The page or two facing pages in the yearbook. |
| divider | a spread used to separate each of the sections of a yearbook |
| eyeline | a horizontal break in the spread one pica big, not in the exact middle of the spread |
| index | the complete alphabetical listing of all students , teachers, advertisers, topics and events covered in a yearbook. |
| MOD | the yearbook equivalent of an excerpt or sidebar. Serve a singular purpose: providing some form of support to your page's main story. They're often visually stimulating and convey information that enhances a page's narrative. |
| Opening | The first two to four pages (or more) of the yearbook which introduces the theme. |
| Section | examples: student life, academics, organizations, people, sports and ads/index. |
| Signature | a group of 16 pages.A 16-page grouping made up of two 8-page flats. Yearbooks are printed in signatures which are then folded, stitched and trimmed to be collated and bound into the yearbook |
