Abigail Williams Seventeen-year-old niece of Rev. Parris; orphaned; described as strikingly beautiful; former servant in John and Elizabeth Proctor's house; leads the girls in the accusations.
Mrs. Ann Putnam Thomas Putnam's wife; daughter Ruth is "afflicted"; lost 7 babies shortly after childbirth; she is jealous of Rebecca Nurse.
Thomas Putnam Putnam holds a grudge against Francis Nurse for preventing Putnam's brother-in-law from being elected to the office of minister. He uses the witch trials to increase his own wealth by accusing people of witchcraft and then buying up their land.
Francis Nurse Sweet, elderly husband of Rebecca; friends with John Proctor and Giles Corey; they oppose the witch trials.

Giles Corey Elderly; 83 years old; often sues his neighbors; man of principles; his wife is Martha Corey.
Reverend John Hale Expert on witchcraft who wants the truth.
