Romeo and Juliet

QuestionAnswer
Why does Benvolio think that he and Mercutio should go somewhere else? It is a hot summer day and there are many Capulets around. Benvolio is worried that if they run into Capulets, there will be a fight.
Why does Tybalt want to fight Romeo? Tybalt wants to fight Romeo because he thought that Romeo disrespected him by showing up at the party.
Why does Romeo say that he now loves Tybalt? Because Romeo just married Juliet, Tybalt and Romeo are now cousins-in-law. He is also trying to explain why he doesn’t want to fight Tybalt.
What happens to Mercutio? Mercutio is stabbed by Tybalt. Romeo is trying to stop the fighting and Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo’s arm.
What happens to Tybalt? Tybalt is killed by Romeo. Romeo is so upset that Tybalt killed Mercutio that Romeo fights with Tybalt and kills Tybalt.
Why doesn’t Lady Capulet believe Benvolio’s story? She says that Benvolio’s version of the story is biased because Benvolio is Romeo’s friend.
What declaration does Lady Capulet make about Romeo? She says that Romeo must be killed because Romeo killed Tybalt.
Why does Juliet want night to arrive so quickly? Juliet wants night to arrive so that she can see Romeo. He has to be sneaky since he cannot be seen in Verona.
Who does Juliet think was killed? She thinks Romeo was killed.
How does Juliet react initially when she hears that Romeo killed Tybalt? Juliet is shocked at first and untrusting of Romeo. She is doubting Romeo’s intentions and his character.
Why does she then change her mind? The Nurse speaks badly of Romeo which causes Juliet to get defensive of him. She is too in love with him to go against him now.
Where is Romeo hiding? Romeo is hiding in Friar Lawrence’s cell.
What is the nurse going to do for Juliet? The Nurse tells Juliet she knows where Romeo is and that she will find him and bring him to Juliet.
Why does Romeo think that banishment is worse than death? He thinks that banishment is worse than death because he will not be able to see Juliet.
How does the friar respond to this reaction of Romeo’s? He is critical of Romeo because Romeo is not appreciating all of the “blessings” that Romeo has received. Friar Lawrence thinks that Romeo should be happy that the Prince did not have Romeo executed.
What plan does the friar then make for Romeo? The plan is that Romeo will see Juliet that night. After they spend the night together, then Romeo will go to a neighboring town called Mantua. Romeo will stay in Mantua until things settle down in Verona. Once, things settle down, Friar Lawrence will
What decision has Capulet made for Juliet? He has decided that Juliet will marry Paris on Thursday. It is currently Monday.
Of what is Juliet trying to convince Romeo at the beginning of this scene? Juliet is trying to convince Romeo that it is still night so that he does not have to leave her.
What makes her change her mind? She realizes that it is the Lark (a bird that sings in the morning) that is chirping and not the Nightingale.
Why does Lady Capulet think that Juliet is crying? She thinks that Juliet is crying over Tybalt’s death.
What plan does Lady Capulet have for Romeo? She plans on sending a man to Mantua with poison that will kill Romeo.
How does Lord Capulet react to the news that Juliet will not marry Paris? He is furious! He starts yelling at her that he will disown her and throw her out onto the streets if she does not marry Paris.
What advice does the nurse give? She tells Juliet that Juliet should marry Paris.
Where is Juliet going at the end of the scene? Juliet is going to Friar Lawrence’s cell. She tells the nurse to tell her parents that she is going to confession.
The Prince sentences Romeo to Romeo is banished from Verona.
