"Sect" Vocabulary

Study Tool for "Sect" Root Words

TermDefinition
Bisect divide into two parts.
Dissect methodically cut up (a body, part, or plant) in order to study its internal parts
Insect a small arthropod animal that has six legs and generally one or two pairs of wings.
Intersection a point at which two or more things intersect, especially roads.
Section any of the more or less distinct parts into which something is or may be divided or from which it is made up.
Sectional a sofa made in sections that can be used separately as chairs.
Sector an area or portion that is distinct from others.
Transect cut across or make a transverse section in.
Trisect divide (something) into three parts, typically three equal parts.
Vivisection the practice of performing operations on live animals for the purpose of experimentation or scientific research (used only by people who are opposed to such work).
