QuestionAnswer
What is Carbon dioxide? A molecule made of carbon and oxygen atoms.
What is Climate? General weather patterns over a long period of time.
What is Climate Change? Changes in climate over a long period of time that can be caused by natural events or human activities.
What is Combustion? The process of burning fuels, which produces carbon dioxide.
What is Fluctuation? Variations in a set of data.
What is Methane? A molecule made of carbon and hydrogen atoms.
What is Trend? Overall tendancy in a set of data overtime.
Although there are many fluctuations, there is a trend toward _______ temperatures and decreasing ________ on earth since about ______. Increasing, ice, 1880
Global average temperature __________ when __________ absorbed by the surface increases. Increases, energy
When the amount of __________ or __________ in the atmosphere changes, the amount of __________ absorbed by the __________ also changes. Carbon dioxide, Methane, energy, surface
When the amount of carbon dioxide or methane __________, __________ absorbed by the surface increases. Increases, energy
When the amount of ___________ or ___________ decreases, energy absorbed by the surface __________. Carbon dioxide, Methane, decreases.
A change to either the amount of energy __________ or __________ the earth system affects how much energy is absorbed by the surface. Entering, exiting
Temperature increases if __________ energy enters then exits. More
Temperature decreases if __________ energy enters then exits. Less
If there is an __________ in the amount of carbon dioxide or methane, the amount of energy leaving the earth system __________, so more energy enters than exits. Increase, decrease
If there is an __________ in the amount of carbon dioxide or methane, the amount of energy leaving the earth system increases, so __________ energy enters than exits. Decrease, less
Carbon dioxide and Methane __________ energy from leaving by __________ energy that would have exited the system. Stop, redirecting
Carbon dioxide and Methane in the atmosphere __________ as a result of human activities, such as __________. Increase, combustion
Some ways to __________ the increase of carbon dioxide and Methane include decreasing __________ and removing these gases from the atmosphere. Stop, combustion
What is more reliable and why: Fluctuations or Trends? Trends because they go for a longer period of time.
What gasses affect energy and how? If carbon dioxide or methane increases, there will be an increase in energy. If there is a increase in sulfur dioxide, energy will decrease. Nitrogen dioxide does not affect energy.
What gasses are increasing in the atmosphere and why? Carbon dioxide and Methane are increasing because of combustion, deforestation and a cows diet.
How can we reduce these gasses. Planting more trees, (Reforestation) not using cars or automobiles as much or changes in a cows diet so it does not belch or release gas as much.
How does Combustion affect the total amount of energy in Earths system? Combustion releases carbon dioxide when being used. More combustion, more carbon dioxide. If there is more carbon dioxide, there will be more energy.
How does Carbon dioxide increase energy? More energy is going to enter than exit the earth's atmosphere because the energy that is trying to exit will get redirected back to Earth.
How does this affect Global average temperature? If there is more energy because of the more combustion, there will be a higher temperature.
What is energy? The ability to make things move or change.
What is temperature? A measure of how hot or cold something is.
What is absorb? To take in.
What is atmosphere? The mixture of gases surrounding a planet.
What is Model? An object, diagram, or computer program that helps us understand something by making it simpler or easier to see.
What are Human Activities? Things people do that affect the earth's system.
What is stability? When something stays mostly the same over time?
What is change? When something becomes different over time?
What is sulfur dioxide? A molecule made of sulfur and oxygen atoms.
