CC2 Unit 4 Vocabular

TermDefinition
Algebraic Expression Combination of terms separated by + or - sign. Contains variables. Does NOT have an equal sign.
Corresponding Parts Points, sides, edges, or angles in 2 or more similar figures that are in the same location on the different shapes.
Evaluate To find the numerical value
Scale Factor A ratio that compares the sizes of the parts of 1 figure to the size of the corresponding parts of a similar figure.
Terms A single number, variable, or product of numbers and variables such as: -45 or 1.2x or 3xy
Distributive Property a(b + c) = ab + ac or 10(7 + 2) = 70 + 20
Proportional Relationship A relationship where both variables increase at a steady rate. Begins at (0,0).
Unit Rate A rate with a denominator of 1 when simplified. Labels should include the word "per."
Combining Like Terms Combining 2 or more terms to simplify an expression
Constant of Proportionality Another name for Unit rate
Equivalent Expression Same amount with a different name
Scale Drawing A drawing that shows a real object with accurate sizes except they have been reduced or enlarged by a scale factor.
Simplify Write an equivalent expression in a less complicated way by combining like terms.
Similar Figures Figures have the same shape but are not necessarily the same size.
