| population distribution | the geographic pattern of where people live |
| populartion density | the average number of people living in a square mile or a square kilometer |
| death rate | the number of deaths compared to the total number of people in a population at a given time |
| birth rate | the number of babies born compared to the total number of people in a population at a given time |
| infant mortality rate | the death of children under the age of one year |
| life expectancy | the average period that a person may expect to live |
| rual | describes an area that is lightly populated |
| urban | describes an area that is densely populated |
| literacy | competence or knowledge in a specified area. |
| double time | the number of years it takes a population to double in size based on its current growth rate |
| migration | movement of people to a new area or country in order to find work or better living conditions |
| immagrate | to enter and live in a new country |
| refugee | a person who flees a country because of violence, war, persecution, or disaster |
| megalopolis | a huge city or cluster of cities with an extremely large population |
| emigrate | to leave one's home to live in another place |
| urbanization | when a city grows larger and spreads into nearby areas |
