QuestionAnswer
What is angle of incidence? The angle of the wing in relation to the aircraft. This doesn't change because it's based on the design of the aircraft.
What is angle of attack? the chord line of the wing in relation to the relative wind.
What are the atributes of a forward center of gravity? More Tail down for needed to maintain level flight •Slower Cruise Speed •Decreased Range •Longer Takeoff Distance •Increased Stability •Easier Stall Recovery •Difficulty Flaring •Higher Stall Speed
What are the atributes of an aft center of gravity? (CG gets closer to the CL) Less tail down force needed to maintain level flight. •Higher Cruise Speed •Increased Range •Shorter Takeoff Distance •Decreased Stability •Possibly Uncontrollable •Over Rotation on Takeoff •Over Flaring on Landing •Lower stall speed
What is center of pressure? The point at which all lift effects.
What is center of gravity? the point at which all weight pulls down.
What is the angle of attack for the propeller? the angle between the propeller chord line and the relative wind. Same as a regular wing on an airplane.
The angle of attack at which an airpolane wing stalls will: remain the same regardless of gross weight.
Ideally, is the center of lift in front of or behind the center of gravity? Center of Lift is ideally behind the Center of Gravity.
What is the tail down force? The force of the rear of the airplane (empennage and elevators).
The moment of _______ needs to equal the moment of the tail down force. The Center of Lift.
Which is less controllable? 1. Aft CG 2. Forward CG Aft CG
What happens to the tail down force when you move the CG forward? You need more tail down force to maintain steady and level flight. So you get poorer performance, but better maneuverability.
What happens to the tail down force when you move the CG aft? You need less tail down force to maintain steady and level flight. So you get better performance, but worse maneuverability. Stalls happen easily. Flares and takeoff rotation can be disastrous because very little correction causes big movements.
What is the definition of Maneuvering Speed? (VA) The speed at which a single flight control can be moved, one time, to its full defection without risk of damage to the aircraft
Upon encountering severe tubulence, which flight condition should the pilot attempt to maintain? Level Flight Attitude.
the stall speed of an airplane 1. is not affected by dynamic pressures and lift coefficient 2. is constant regardless of weight or airfoil configuration 3. is affected by weight and bank angle. Is affected by weight and bank angle. PHAK 5-4 Stall speed is affected by bank angle and wight. The stall speed at 2000lbs is 55kts, but 2400 will be 60kts because higher more weight = higher angle of attack to maintain flight.
The angle of attack at which an airplane wing stalls will 1 remain the same regardless of gross weight 2 increase if the CG is moved forward 3 change with an increase in gross weight Remain the same regardless o f gross weight. Adv Circ 61-67C, 100.a The stall is directly related to the airfoil.
Adverse Ya while banking into a turn is caused by 1 induced drag in the down aileron 2 induced drag in the up aileron 3 failure to coordinate aileron with rudder Induced drag in the down aileron. PHAK chapter 5 This is when you see the Turn Coord Bubble move opposite the turn. Use rudder to correct. The cause of it comes from the aileron pushing up creates more induced drag (it's lifting) so it yaws opposite
in a constant angle of bank in a coordinated turn, the displacement of the turn needle will 1 remain constant regardless of airspeed 2 increase as airspeed decreases 3 increase as airspeed increases increase as airspeed decreases. Airplane flying handbook the airspeed decreases, so with the same angle of bank, you're doing a deeper turn so the turn coordinator shows a steeper turn.
