Transitions Math Vocabulary Chapter 1

QuestionAnswer
Digit One of the ten symbols used in the decimal system to stand for the first ten whole numbers.
Decimal System System of writing numbers based on the number ten.
Decimal Notation A manner of writing in which numbers are written using ten digits and each place stands for a power of ten.
Whole Number Any of the numbers
Place Value The number that each digit in a decimal system stands for.
Count A whole number tally of particular things.
Counting Unit The name of the particular things being tallied in a count.
Measure A real number indicating an amount of some quantity.
Unit of Measure A standardized amount with which measures can be compared
Interval The distance between two neighboring tick marks. (1.2)
