| molar mass | the mass of one mole of a pure substance is called the molar mass of that substance |
| mole | The amount of a substance that contains as many particles as there are atoms in exactly 12 g of carbon-12 |
| molecule | a neutral group of atoms that are held together ny covalent bonds |
| Scientific notation | numbers are written in the form M x 10 where the factor M is a number greater than or equal to 1 but less than 10 , and n is a whole number |
| fomula unit | The simplest collection of atoms from which an ionic compounds formula can be written |
| molecular mass | The molar mass of a compound is numerically equal to its formula mass |
| atomic mass | The weighted average of the atomic masses of the naturally occurring isotopes of an element |
| molecular formula | a compounds molecular formula mass is numerically equal to its molar mass |
| density | the ratio of mass to volume , or mass divided by volume |
| Formula Mass | Formula mass is the sum of the average atomic masses of a compounds element |
| Percent composition | The number of grams in one mole of a compound |
| Empirical formula | shows the whole number ratio of elements in a compound |
