How did they treats the slaves? They did not pay slaves, and they did not treat slaves like equal citizens, and their treatment of them was harsh and inhuman.
What did the Middle colonies grow? They grew wheat, barley, oats, rye, and corn.
Whats the meaning of self government? government of a country by its own people, especially after having been a colony.
What was the soil like in New England? Much of the soil wasn't good for growing crops, especially near the ocean.
How did the winters affect the New England? The early and long-lasting winters killed many crops quickly.
How did they help families? Still, they grew enough food to feed their families and maybe even help feed other families (subsistence farming).
Where did the New England/Massachusetts pilgrims settle? Pilgrims settled in Plymouth
What is the colony that got lost? Roanoke
What are Town Meetings? Meetings to discuss issues within the colony.
What did the New England use to build ships? They used the trees from the forests for lumber, much of which was used to build ships.
Why were the Middle Colonies called the "breadbaskets"? They were called the "breadbasket" because they grew so much food.
What is the meaning of diverse? showing a great deal of variety; very different.
Who had the best fertile soil? The Southern Colonies has soil that was the richest in the colonies
Which climate is the Southern Colonies? Hot & humid climate
Whats the most valuable crop that the Southern Colonies made? Soil & climate conditions allowed southerners to grow cash crops. These are crops that are sold for a tremendous profit around the world. Tobacco was the most valuable crop.
What is the definition of Plantations? an estate on which crops such as coffee, sugar, and tobacco are cultivated by resident labor.
What is the definition of cash-crops? a crop produced for its commercial value rather than for use by the grower.
What is one of the most wealthiest people in the world in the 13 colonies? Plantation owners were some of the wealthiest people in the world.
How were kids educated? They lived too far apart to have schools; children were tutored at home or sent to private school in Europe.
Who harvested the crops? In order to maximize profits, they used slaves from Africa to plant and harvest crops.
What is the definition of Triangular trade The pattern of trade that developed between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Rum, Sugar, Slaves made up one of the most tragic yet valuable ‘triangles’.
What is the Middle Passage? The horrific journey slaves were forced to take after being taken/kidnapped from Africa and taken to America -very unsanitary/unsafe/horrible conditions
What is the definition of Social? Religion, Interactions between people, beliefs, traditions,
What is the definition of Economic? Having to do with jobs, production of goods, & trade
What is the definition of politics? Anything having to do with government
What is Jamestown? first permanent and successful English settlement in the New World
How did Jamestown get saved? The Colony was saved when they started to grow and export tobacco
Who saved the Plymouth? succeeded with help from the Native Americans
Why did Plymouth come to America? Came to America to seek religious freedom
What is the definition of Indentured servants? Some indentured servants served as cooks, gardeners, housekeepers, field workers, or general laborers while others learned specific trades such as blacksmiths, plastering, and bricklaying, which they often parlayed into future careers
