The mole

| molar mass | The mass of one mole of a pure substance is called the molar mass of that substance |
| molecule | A neutral group of atoms that are held together by covalent bonds |
| Scientific notation | A method of expressing a quantity as a number multiplied by 10 to the appropriate power |
| formula unit | The simplest collection of atoms from which an ionic compound's formula can be written |
| molecular mass | Mass of an individual molecule or atom |
| atomic mass | Mass of atoms |
| molecular formula | Actual formula of a molecular compound |
| density | The ratio of the mass of a substance to the volume of the substance |
| Formula Mass | The sum of the average atomic masses of all atoms represented in the formula of any molecule, formula unit, or ion |
| Percent Composition | The percentage by mass of each element in a compound |
| Empirical Formula | A chemical formula that shows the composition of a compound in terms of the relative numbers and kinds of atoms in the simplest ratio |
