RBT: Verbal Operants

QuestionAnswer
audience functioning as a discriminative stimulus is the listener for verbal behavior
automatic punishment Decrease in behavior that occurs independent of social mediation by others
automatic reinforcement Increase in behavior that occurs independent of social mediation of others (scratching insect bite)
textual reading written text, has point to pint correspondence, but no formal similarity between stimulus and response product
echoic Point to point correspondence and formal similarity; repeats verbal behavior of another person controlled by verbal discriminative stimulus
formal similarity controlling antecedent stimulus and the response or response product share same sense mode, (visual, audio or tactile) and physically resemble each other
intraverbal operant occurs when a verbal discriminative stimulus evokes verbal response that does not have point to point correspondence with verbal stimulus
listener provides reinforcement for verbal behavior
mand speaker asks for what he wants, under control of (MO); reinforced by access to item
point-to-point correspondence between stimulus and response or response product occurs when begging middle and end of verbal stills match beginning middle end of response
speaker gains access to reinforcer and control environment through behavior of listener
tact speaker names things and actions through contact with senses. function of non verbal discriminative stimuli; maintained by generalized reinforcement
