Fractions

TermDefinition
Denominator the bottom part of a fraction that shows how many equal parts the whole is divided into
Fraction part of a whole
Improper fraction a number in the form of a fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator (5/4, 3/2, etc)
Mixed number a number that is composed of a whole number and a fraction (3 1/2, 1 2/3, etc)
Numerator the top number of a fraction that says how many parts are being counted
Whole all of the parts
Number line a line on which numbers are marked at intervals
equivalent fractions fractions that are equal to the same value
common denominator least common multiple of the denominators of two (or more) fractions
least common multiple smallest multiple that two or more numbers have in common
comparing fractions determining the larger and the smaller fraction between any two or more fractions
