| arithmetic sequence | a number sequence formed by adding a fixed number to each previous term to find the next term |
| common difference | the difference between consecutive terms of an arithmetic sequence |
| continuous graph | a graph that is unbroken |
| dependent variable | a variable that provides the output values of a function |
| discrete graph | a graph composed of isolated points |
| domain | the possible values for the input of a relation or function |
| function | a relation that assigns exactly one value in the range to each value in the domain |
| function notation | to write a rule in function notation, use the symbol f(x) in place of y |
| independent variable | a variable that provides the input values of a function |
| input | a value of the independent variable |
| linear function | a function whose graph is a line |
| nonlinear function | a function whose graph is not a line or part of a line |
| output | a value of the dependent variable |
| range | the set of all output values for a relation |
| relation | any set of ordered pairs |
| sequence | an ordered list of numbers that often forms a pattern |
| term of a sequence | any number in a sequence |
| vertical line test | a method for determining whether a relation is a function or not |
