Drama Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Drama a story that is meant to be performed on a stage in front of a live audience
Script the written text of the drama or play
Cast the actors that are playing the role of a character
Character someone in the story that is being played by an actor
Setting when and where the drama is taking place
Dialogue the lines or words said by the characters
Narrator the person who speaks directly to the audience to give more information about what is happening in the play
Stage Directions written instructions that tell the actors how to perform their lines, usually written in italics or parenthesis
Act like a chapter, it is a group of scenes in a play
Scene a smaller part of an act, it is a part of the drama that takes place in one setting
Lines the part of the script that each actor is suppose to say, the dialogue
Actor someone who plays a character in the drama or play
Theme the lesson or message of the drama or other work of fiction
Stage the area where the drama is performed
Plot the actions and events in the play
Props objects actors use when performing
Audience the people watching a drama or play
Conflict a problem the characters have that causes events that are important to the plot
Playwright the author of a play or drama
Resolution the solution to the problem or conflict
