Events and dates of Athenian rise to power

Pentecontaetia 481 BC – 432 BC: The fifty years Thucydides coined to the Athenian rise from a hegemon to autocratic power.
Phase 1 of Athenian rise to power 478/479 BC: Became hegemon of the Delian League. Allies joined with oath of allegiance which was binding and permanent. In charge of tax collection and treasury,
The capture of Byzantium 478-477 BC: controlled the Black sea and when captured, cut of the Persian garrison. acting in the charter of the League
Siege and capture of Eion (mouth of the Strymon river) 476-475 BC: This opened the east-west land route , which was the centre of exchange for gold and silver, corn , grain and timber(gold mines at Mt. Pangaeus). Eion was the supply depot for the Persian forces.
Scyrus 474-473 BC: overrun by pirates. sieged and was replaced by Athenian cleruchy. imperialistic incentives
Coercion of Carystus 472 BC: remained neutral and was close to Athens. Coerced to join due to threat of Persian invading.
