Term | Definition |
---|---|
Combining Like Terms (CLT) | Combining two or more like terms simplifies an expression |
Discrete Graph | A graph made up of unconnected points |
Independent variable | A variable (often denoted by x ) whose variation does not depend on that of another. |
Solution | The number or numbers that when substituted into an equation or inequality make the equation or inequality true. |
Vertex | A point where two or more straight lines meet. On a parabola it is the highest or lowest point. |
Continuous Graph | When the points on a graph are connected and it makes sense to connect them |
Term | A single number, variable, or the product of numbers and variables. In an expression, they are separated by addition or subtraction signs. |
x-intercept | The x-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the x-axis |
Dependent Variable | A variable (often denoted by y ) whose value depends on that of another. |
Evaluate | To find the numerical value of |
Parabola | A particular kind of mathematical curve |
Variable | A symbol used to represent a quantity that can change |
y-intercept | The y-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the y-axis |
Order of Operations | The specific order in which certain operations are to be carried out to evaluate or simplify expressions |
Distributative Property | a(b+c) = ab+ac a(b-c) = ab-ac |
