TermDefinition
Combining Like Terms (CLT) Combining two or more like terms simplifies an expression
Discrete Graph A graph made up of unconnected points
Independent variable A variable (often denoted by x ) whose variation does not depend on that of another.
Solution The number or numbers that when substituted into an equation or inequality make the equation or inequality true.
Vertex A point where two or more straight lines meet. On a parabola it is the highest or lowest point.
Continuous Graph When the points on a graph are connected and it makes sense to connect them
Term A single number, variable, or the product of numbers and variables. In an expression, they are separated by addition or subtraction signs.
x-intercept The x-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the x-axis
Dependent Variable A variable (often denoted by y ) whose value depends on that of another.
Evaluate To find the numerical value of
Parabola A particular kind of mathematical curve
Variable A symbol used to represent a quantity that can change
y-intercept The y-coordinate of a point where a graph crosses the y-axis
Order of Operations The specific order in which certain operations are to be carried out to evaluate or simplify expressions
Distributative Property a(b+c) = ab+ac a(b-c) = ab-ac
