TermDefinition
Parenthetical word or words added to a sentence without changing meaning or grammar of the original sentence and gives extra information that is not essential.
Parody imitation of a particular writer, artist or a genre, exaggerating it deliberately to produce a comic effect.
Pathos Appeal to emotion.
Polysyndeton the repetition of conjunctions in a series of coordinate words, phrases, or clauses.
Satire the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.
syllogism a deductive system of formal logic that presents two premises that inevitably lead to a sound conclusion.
Travesty a false, absurd, or distorted representation of something.
Trope a figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression.
Zeugma a figure of speech in which a word, usually a verb or an adjective, applies to more than one noun, blending together grammatically and logically different ideas.
Periphrasis use of longer phrasing when the shorter form is possible.
Simile Comparison using like or as.
