Motion in 1 dimension

TermDefinition
displacement The change in an object's position
vector quantity A physical measurement that contains directional info (velocity, acceleration)
scalar quantity A physical measurement that does not contain directional info (speed)
velocity The time rate of change of an object's position (how quickly an object's position is changing)
speed The time rate of change of the distance traveled by an object (d/t)
instantaneous velocity The velocity of an object at one moment in time
average velocity The velocity of an object over an extended period of time
acceleration The time rate of change of an object's velocity (how an object's velocity changes with time)
The slope of a velocity-v-time curve is... ...the acceleration
The slope of a position-v-time curve is... ...the velocity
If the velocity is 0, acceleration does not have to be 0.
If acceleration is 0, velocity does not have to be 0.
