Use this to study your math vocabulary terms!

TermDefinition
Acute Angle An angle that measures between 0 degrees and 90 degrees
Expression Includes 1 or more variables
Common Denominator Number that is the denominator of 2 or more fractions
Difference The result of subtracting 1 number from another
Distributive Property Multiplying a sum/difference by a number is the same as multiplying each number in the sum/difference by the number and adding/subtracting the products
Denominator The number below the fraction bar in a fraction
Equation Includes an equal sign
Formula A rule that uses symbols to relate 2 or more amounts
Identity Property of Multiplication The product of any number and 1 is that number
Interval The difference between consecutive numbers on an axis of a graph
Inverse Operations Operations that undo each other
Numerator The number above the fraction bar in a fraction
Obtuse Angle An angle that measures between 90 degrees and 180 degrees
Order of Operations Parantheses / Exponents / Multiplication / Division / Addition / Subtraction
Prime Number A whole number greater than 1 that has exactly 2 factors: itself and 1
Product The result of multiplying 2 or more factors
Quotient The result of dividing 2 factors
Sum The result of adding 2 or more factors
Zero Property of Multiplication The product of any number and 0 is 0
Absolute Value Distance between a number and 0 on a number line
Coefficient The number part of a term that contains a variable
Common Factor A number that is a factor of 2 or more given numbers
Factors Numbers that are multiplied to get a product
Greatest Common Factor (GCF) The greatest number that is a factor of 2 or more numbers
Improper Fraction A fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator
Like Terms Terms that have identical variable parts
Ratio A relationship in which every X units of 1 quantity that are Y units of another quantity
Adjactent Angles 2 angles that share a vertex & a side but NO interior points in common
Complementary Angles 2 angles with the sum of 90 degrees
Proportion Equation where 2 ratios are equal
Proportional Relationship Y is always a constant multiple of X
Supplementary Angles 2 angles with the sum of 180 degrees
Irrational Numbers A number that CANNOT be written as a fraction and also any repeating decimal number
Negative Exponent Property Any negative exponents need to be moved into the denominator of the fraction
Slope of a Line change in y-coodinates / change in x-coordinates
Zero Exponent Property Any number with a 0 exponent equals 1
