What increased in the 1920s? Farmers debt.
What was one reason for the farming crisis of the 1920s? Demand for cops fell after World War 1.
What does buying a stock on margin mean? borrowing money to help pay for the stock.
What is known as a speculation? Buying stocks on the chance of a quick profit without considering risks.
Within a few years, what led to a dramatic drop in world trade? The Howley Smoot Tariff Act.
What was the overall unemployment rate during the great depression? 25%
What was the dust bowl caused by? drought, high winds, and over production of crops.
What did the great depression cause many children to have? a poor diet, many families became homeless, and many men became unemployed.
What was a hoboe? the name given to men and boys that rode the rails as they searched for work.
In calling shantytowns "Hoovervilles", people conveyed their disgust with? Hoover.
Between 1928 and 1932, what did the suicide rate rise more than? 30 percent
What was one long-range effect of the Great Depression? Many people developed habits of saving and thriftiness.
After the stock market crash, how did President Hoover try to help the economy? by asking buisnesses not to lay off employees.
