Terms and Definitions
| Term | Definition |

| Stanza | Means “room” in Italian. It is a grouped set of lines within a poem, usually set off from other stanzas by white space above and below. It is also called a verse. |
| Couplet | A pair of lines that rhyme. |
| Poem for Two Voices | A poem written in two columns. Two students read the poem, and each chooses a column to read. When there are words that appear on the same line, the students read those words in unison. |
| Line break | The place where a poet chooses to end one line and begin another. It can be written without traditional punctuation. |
| White space | The area around the poem. |
| Alignment (Left, right, center) | The way the words of a poem line up on the page. |
