| diagonal | a segament that joins two nonconsecutive vertices of a polygon |
| parallelogram | a quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel |
| rhombus | a parallelogram with four congruent sides |
| rectangle | a parallelogram with four congruent angles |
| square | a parallelogram with four congruent sides and four congruent angles |
| trapezoid | a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides, called bases. the nonparallel sides are legs |
| base angles | either pair of angles whose common side is a base of a trapezoid |
| base | the parallel sides of a trapezoid |
| legs | the nonparallel sides of a trapezoid |
| isosceles trapezoid | a trapezoid with congruent legs |
| midsegent of a trapezoid | a segment that connects the midpoints of the legs of a trapezoid |
| kite | a quadrilateral that has two pairs of consecutive congruent sides, but in which opposite sides are not congruent |
