TermDefinition
Applied Force A force which is applied to an object by a person or another object
Opposing Forces Forces that act in opposite directions
Gravity A force that pulls objects toward each other
Weight A Measure of the gravitation force exerted on an object
Unbalanced forces Forces acting on an object that combine and forma a net force that is not zero
Inertia The tendency of an object to resist a change in motion
Newton's First Law An object in motion(or at rest) will tend to stay in motion ( or rest) until it is acted upon by an outside force
Newton's Second Law The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied. F=MA
Newton's Third Law For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
Acceleration the rate at which velocity changes over time
Speed The distance an object travels per unit of time
Velocity The speed of an object in a particular direction
Motion An objects change in position relative to a reference point
Potential Energy stored energy that results from the position and/or mass of an object
Kinetic Energy the energy an object has due to its motion
Force A push or a pull
Constant Velocity Constant speed and direction
Balanced Force Two forces in opposite directions. No Motion
Friction the force between objects that resists motion
Newton A measurement of force
Magnitude The strength or size of an object
Mass The total amount of matter in something
Net Force Total of all the forces acting upon an object
Vector An quantity that has a magnitude and direction
Distance The amount traveled from a certain spot
Aerodynamics Relating to the forces of air in motion
Thrust The reaction force that propels a rocket forward
Propulsion the Action of driving or pushing forward
Center of Mass Point in a object that moves as if all of the object's mass were concentrated at that point
Streamlined A smooth shape designed to decrease resistance
Drag resistance by friction from air or water
Coefficient of drag the capability of a particular object to create drag
Momentum The product of an object's mass and velocity

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
