Angle Relationships
Angles created by parallel lines and transversals
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Transversal | A line that intersects two or more lines. |
Parallel Lines | Lines that are always equally spaced apart and will never cross. |
Corresponding Angles | Angles that are in matching corners or positions. |
Vertical Angles | The angles opposite each other when two lines cross. They will always be congruent. |
Linear Pair | Adjacent angles formed by two intersecting lines. They will always have a sum of 180 degrees. |
Alternate Interior Angles | Angles between the parallel lines that are on opposite sides of the transversal. They will always be congruent. |
Alternate Exterior Angles | Angles outside the parallel lines that are on opposite sides of the transversal. They will always be congruent. |
Same Side Interior Angles | Angles between the parallel lines that are on the same side of the transversal. They will always have a sum of 180 degrees. **SOMETIMES CALLED CONSECUTIVE INTERIOR ANGLES** |
Same Side Exterior Angles | Angles outside the parallel lines that are on the same side of the transversal. They will always have a sum of 180 degrees. **SOMETIMES CALLED CONSECUTIVE EXTERIOR ANGLES** |
