Unit 2 Math Vocab
| Term | Definition |

| Zero Pair | Two numbers whose sum is zero. Opposite numbers form a zero pair. |
| Negative Numbers | Numbers less than 0. They are located to the left of 0 on a horizontal number line and below 0 on a vertical number line. |
| Positive Numbers | Numbers that are greater than 0. They are located to the right of 0 on a horizontal number line and above 0 on a vertical number line. |
| Opposite Numbers | Numbers that are the same distance from zero in the opposite direction. Another term is additive inverse. |
| Absolute Value | The distance a number is from 0 on a number line. It is always positive. |

| Rational Numbers | Any number that can be expressed as a fraction. Examples: 1/3 or 3.4 |
| Commutative Property | Changing the order of an addition or multiplication problem will not change the sum(+) or product(x). |
| Associative Property | When you add or multiply, you can group the numbers in any combination using parenthesis. |
| Mixed Number | A number consisting of an integer and a proper fraction. |
| Counterexample | An example that opposes or proves that an idea or claim is incorrect. |
| Product | The answer to a multiplication problem |
| Distributive Property | a(b + c) = ab + ac; a number outside the parenthesis can be multiplied to each term within the parenthesis. |
