Define Autocratic leadership: Authoritarian leader that assumes employees are motivated by external forces. Leader prefers to tell staff exactly how and when to do things. Complete control in this leadership reduces errors during crisis situations in the workplace
Define Servant leadership: Leader who motivates staff through building relationships by serving others first, and then leading. This promotes growth and a positive, supporting work environment which is attributed to increased performance by employees
Define Laissez-Faire leadership: Leader who believes motivation is powered by internal forces, leading to minimal supervision and direction to staff.
Define Democratic leadership: Participative leader who believes employees are motivated by internal forces and therefore shares responsibility in decision making with team. Great communication and teamwork creates a positive work environment, however not the best in times of crisis
Define Bureaucratic leadership: Very business-like leader that follows all the rules, policies and procedures. Great for guiding staff activities and results however, not very empathetic environment

These six qualities include clear ethical principles (integrity) that inspire trust and role-modeling and spending the time needed to accomplish tasks well (dedication) Effective leaders believe in giving credit where it is due (magnanimity) and respecting and appreciating others’ contributions knowing that no one person is superior to another (humility).
They practice active listening with an open mind (openness) and think creatively to arrive at a solution (creativity). This creates a workplace environment that influences and empowers future leaders. Bennis also reminds leaders that trust is earned and is reciprocal. Leaders trust their followers and are then trusted by them.

McGregor's (1960) management theories states that managers have Theory X or Theory Y characteristics which assist in motivating staff. Define Theory X Theory X managers believes people are lazy and need to be told what to do, motivated by threats and punishments. They must control their employees and have little ambition beyond that.
