TermDefinition
hardware physical componets of the computer
Software The programs and other operating information used by computers
peripheral devices another name for a component
motherboards in every device and everything is connected to it.
central processing units/ cpu: the brain of the computer it controls the software
fan/ heat sink cools down the computer so it doesn’t overheat
random access memory/RAM the short term memory of the computer.
Hard drive permanent storage stores all files and data
expansion slots A port on the motherboard where you can add more hardware often fit for video cards, Graphics card, and wireless Card.
Power supply provides electricity to all computer components
hdmi cable Connects a variety of devices to the computer or to displays.
Modem Translates incoming analog signals into internet signals for the computer
router wifi
Ethernet used to connect a computer to a modem or a router.
Vga cable Connects the monitor to the computer many newer devices have moved away from vga and use hdmi instead
Power cable connects the power supply to the wall outlet to bring electricity to the computer
Keyboard Input device: user inputs information into the computer by allowing information to be typed into the computer
Mouse input device user inputs information into the computer by clicking and dragging and selecting
