| origin | the intersection of the x- and y-axes in a coordinate plane, described by the ordered pair (0, 0) |
| coordinate plane | a system formed by the intersection of a horizontal number line, called the x-axis, and a vertical number line, called the y-axis |
| quadrants | the four regions in a coordinate plane separated by the x-axis and y-axis |
| ordered pair/coordinates | a pair of numbers that gives the location of a point on a coordinate grid as its value on the x and y axis (x, y) |
| x-axis | the horizontal number line in a coordinate plane |
| y-axis | the vertical number line in a coordinate plane |
| x-coordinate | the x-value of an ordered pair, represents the horizontal placement of the point in the coordinate plane |
| y-coordinate | the y-value of an ordered pair, represents the vertical placement of the point in the coordinate plane |
