negative numbers | numbers less than zero |
opposites | two numbers that have the same absolute value but different signs |
positive numbers | numbers greater than zero |
rational numbers | any number that can be written as a fraction |
divisor | the number by which another number is divided |
dividend | the number that is being split; the total amount being divided |
quotient | the result of a division problem |
reciprocal | one of a pair of numbers whose product is 1; for example, 4/3 and 3/4 |

product | the result of a multiplication problem |
origin | the intersection of the x- and y-axes in a coordinate plane, described by the ordered pair (0, 0) |
coordinate plane | a system formed by the intersection of a horizontal number line, called the x-axis, and a vertical number line, called the y-axis |
quadrants | the four regions in a coordinate plane separated by the x-axis and y-axis |
ordered pair/coordinates | a pair of numbers that gives the location of a point on a coordinate grid as its value on the x and y axis (x, y) |
x-axis | the horizontal number line in a coordinate plane |
y-axis | the vertical number line in a coordinate plane |
x-coordinate | the x-value of an ordered pair, represents the horizontal placement of the point in the coordinate plane |
y-coordinate | the y-value of an ordered pair, represents the vertical placement of the point in the coordinate plane |
