| expedient | literally, with one's foot unentangled; appropriate or useful to a purpose; opportune or convenient; a means to an end; a device constructed for an emergency; a makeshift |
| expedite | to get one's foot unentangled, and thus to speed up the process of; to hasten or quicken |
| impediment | something that entangles the foot, and thus any obstruction or hindrance |
| orthopedics | literally, the straightening of a child; the branch of surgery that corrects bone, joint, and muscle deformities |
| pedagogue | one who leads a child, and thus a teacher; a dogmatic teacher |
| pedantic | like a teacher who is often too concerned with the details of learning |
| pedestrian | someone on foot, and thus an ordinary or common person; without cleverness, interest, or imagination |
| pyromaniac | one who has an irresistible impulse to start fires |
| pyrotechnics | the art of making or displaying fireworks; any brilliant display, particularly a performance |
| sesquipedalian | literally, a foot-and-a-half long, thus very long; a long word (an intentionally humorous usage) |
