expedient literally, with one's foot unentangled; appropriate or useful to a purpose; opportune or convenient; a means to an end; a device constructed for an emergency; a makeshift
expedite to get one's foot unentangled, and thus to speed up the process of; to hasten or quicken
impediment something that entangles the foot, and thus any obstruction or hindrance
orthopedics literally, the straightening of a child; the branch of surgery that corrects bone, joint, and muscle deformities
pedagogue one who leads a child, and thus a teacher; a dogmatic teacher
pedantic like a teacher who is often too concerned with the details of learning
pedestrian someone on foot, and thus an ordinary or common person; without cleverness, interest, or imagination
pyromaniac one who has an irresistible impulse to start fires
pyrotechnics the art of making or displaying fireworks; any brilliant display, particularly a performance
