conditional statement | an if-then statement that consists of two parts, an antecedant and a consequent |
denotation | providing an explicit definition for a word or idea |
connotation | implied meaning rather than literal meaning |
anaphora | repetition of a word, phrase, or clause, at the beginning of two or more sentences or clauses in a row to make the point more coherent |
colloquial (ism) | informal conversation |
epiphora | the repetition of a word or phrase at the end of every clause |
counterexample | an example that runs counter to a generalization, thus falsifying it |
concession | accepting at least part or all of an opposing viewpoint |
metaphor | making an implied comparison, not using "like," "as," or other such words |
