| exposition | introduces the characters, setting and conflict |
| rising action | key events in sequential order that lead up to the climax |
| climax | turning point of the story; the most exciting part of the story |
| falling action | after the climax, leading the the resolution of the story |
| resolution | the problem of the story is resolved; the end |
