| Search | To select certain records that match criteria |
| Sort | To reorder a database |
| Ascending | From low to high or alphabetical order |
| Descending | From high to low or anti-alphabetical order |
| Text | A database field type that contains characters, numbers and symbols eg. postcode |
| Number | A database field type that contains whole numbers or decimal numbers eg. 12, 13.1 |
| Date/time | A database field type that contains dates and times eg. 12/4/2013, 12 Apr 13, 3:11:12 |
