area | the number of square units needed to cover a surface |

circumference | the distance around a circle |

closed figure | a figure that begins and ends at the same point |

cone | a solid figure that has a circular base and one vertex |

congruent | having the same size and shape |

corresponding angles | angles that are in the same position in different plane figures |

cylinder | a solid figure with two parallel bases that are congruent |

edge | the line segment where two faces of a solid figure meet |

solid figure | a three dimensional figure |

sphere | a solid figure that has the shape of a round ball |

square | a quadrilateral with four equal sides and four right angles |

symmetry | when one half of a figure looks like the mirror image of the other half |

two dimensional | measured in two directions, such as length and width |

three dimensional | measured in three directions, such as length, width, and heigth |

trapezoid | a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides |

triangle | a polygon with three sides and three angles |

vertex | the point at which rays of an angle or line segments meet in a plane figure or in a solid figure |

perpendicular lines | two lines that intersect to form four right angles |

polygon | a closed plane figure with straight sides |

polyhedron | a solid figure with flat faces that are polygons |

prism | a solid figure that has two congruent, polygon-shaped bases, and other faces that are all rectangles |

pyramid | a solid figure with a polygon base and triangular sides which meet at a single point |

quadrilateral | a polygon with four sides |

rectangle | a parallelogram with four right angles |

regular polygon | a polygon in which all sides are congruent and all angles are congruent |

rhombus | a parallelogram with four congruent sides |

scale drawing | a drawing that shows a real object smaller than or larger than the real object |

similar figures | figures that have the same shape but may have different sizes |
