Ninth list of 15 words for the 1st semester of AP Lang and Comp

TermConnotation
Schism a division that is usually when talking about religion and religious devices
Reparation when you repair something and it is used in gov. when making new policies and legislation
Incontrovertible impossible to dispute and used when referring to evidence or facts
Surreptitious mostly negative applies to action of behavior done secretly often with avoidance of detection and in violence of custom, law, or authority
Inchoate something that is in early stages. Neutral used a lot of times in politics, religion or medical fields
Supine lying on the back, face upward or marked by lethargy, passivity or blameworthy indifference. Neutral, talking about body position
Incisive acute, keenly perceptive, penetrating, clear. Used to express idea/opinion in direct way to show what is important, positive
Quotidian everyday, commonplace, recurring daily. Something that happens daily and is ordinary, not new. Negative
Prolix tediously wordy: long and verbose. Has too many words/goes on for too long, boring and difficult to read. Negative
Ecumenical universal, worldwide. Usually related to spreading religion, often Christianity, or unity within a church
Bumptious overbearing or crudely assertive; overly pushy or impertinent. Often used to describe a person in power, or a politician behaving arrogantly
Machination a conniving plot; a craftly scheme that usually refers to something corrupt, or a person abusing power for the most benefiting outcome
Gainsay to declare false. Negative, saying something isn't true, disagreeing with something or contradicting. Challenging authority or information
Cavalcade neutral, its just describing people moving in a ceremonial way. Military, funeral, even people. A precession
Subjugate tends to be negative. Mostly used in a military setting or with government and dictators. Bring under control.
