Eight list of 15 words for the 1st semester of AP Lang and Comp

Corroborate (verb) to confirm or support; to strengthen with evidence
Meticulous (adjective) careful and precise; excessively concerned with details
Conjecture (noun) a guess, an opinion based on guesswork or uncertain evidence (verb) to guess
Obviate (verb) to eliminate; to prevent by anticipating and making unnecessary
Ignominious (adjective) shameful, disgraced
Sagacious (adjective) keenly preceptive; shrewd
Lurid (adjective) causing shock or horror; gruesome, marked by sensationalism
Diatribe (noun) a bitter, abusive criticism or denunciation; tirade
Ilk (noun) a type or kind; groups of people or things regarded as constituting a class because of shared attributes or characteristics.
Expunge (verb) to strike out, obliterate, or mark for deletion; to erase
Pontificate (verb) to issue authoritative decrees ( as a pontiff might)
Epicure (noun) a connoisseur; one who cultivates refined tastes, especially in reference to food or drink
Picayune (adjective) petty, trifling or unimportant
Fabulist (noun) a liar; one who tells outrageous untrue stories
