Sixth list of 15 words for the 1st semester of AP Lang and Comp

TermConnotation
Stymie political sense to describe the halting of someone's efforts. Sometimes used with sports to describe failure.
Effigy ritualistic burning of the effigy of a holy figure. Also to commemorate people. Sometimes for a hatred of someone
Puerile part of a criticism; criticizing things for being immature or unsophisticated
Cognizant Mostly positive commonly used when being informed is beneficial. Lots of times dealing with crime.
Nihilism negative. Associated with crazy people who are closed minded and out of touch with society
Emaciated negative. Used to describe an ill or malnourished person causing them to be abnormally small
Ubiquitous Neutral. often used to refer to technical things like apps and things that are everywhere in everyday life.
Thwart negative. very commonly used in reference to political plans. Usually talking about plans
Solipsism negative. Usually referring to someone with a big ego who are so self-centered that it effects and annoys people around them.
Harbinger an introduction to a new season or event
Insubordinate describes workers who don't fall into line and challenge their boss.
Impresario title for someone who created and presented some form of art usually for a competition or event.
Hubris someone so confident they think they are invincible. Negative
Coquettish someone who flirts lightheartedly with another person to win admiration and affection
Moiety usually scientific things.
