6th grade Force
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Force | A push or pull. that can cause objects to move: slow, stop, or change the direction of an object's motion. |
| Balanced Force | are opposite in direction and equal in size. When forces are balanced there is no change in direction or motion. |
| Unbalanced Force | force applied in one direction is greater than the force applied in the opposite direction which causes a change motion ( in speed and/or direction.) |
| Net Force | sum of all the forces acting on an object |
| Newton | Unit of measurement for force |
| Spring Scale | The tool used to measure force |
| Newton's First Law | Objects in motion stay in motion, objects at rest stay at rest ; in the same speed and same direction unless acted on by an unbalanced force |
| Newton's Second Law | Force=mass times acceleration |
| Newton's 3rd Law | For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction |
