| physical property | is a characteristic that can be observed or measured without changing the identity of the substance |
| chemical property | it relates to a substances ability to undergo changes that transform it into different substance |
| extensive property | depends on the amount of matter that is present |
| intensive property | Do not depends on the amount of matter present |
| ductility | The ability of a substances to be hammered thin or draw out into a wire |
| malleability | The ability of substance to be hammered or beaten into a sheet |
| volume | A measure of a body or region in three-dimensional space |
| compressibility | The measure of how much a given volume of matter decreases when placed under pressure |
| density | The ratio of the mass of a substance of the volume of the substance ; often expressed as grams per cubic centimeter for solids and liquids and as grams per liter for gases |
| evaporation | The changes of a substance from liquid to a gas |
| sublimation | The process in which a solid gas changes directly into a gas |
| vapourization | The process by which a liquid or solid changes to gas |
| elements | Is a pure substance that cannot be broken down into simpler, stable substances and is made of one type of atom. |
| compound | Is a substances that can be broken down into simple stable substances. |
| heterogeneous mixture | For examples, in a mixture of clay and water, heavier clay particles concentrate near the bottom of the container |
| homogeneous mixture | They have the same proportion of compounds throughout. |
| Atom | Is the smallest unit of an element that maintains the chemical identify of that element |
