# Unit 1 Vocabulary

cubic unit | the volume of a unit cube |

plane figure | a two-dimensional figure, such as a circle, triangle, or rectangle |

solid figure | a three-dimensional figure |

unit cube | a cube with side lengths of 1 unit. Said to have one cubic unit of volume, and can be used to measure the volume of a solid figure |

unit square | a square with side lengths of one unit. Said to have one square unit of area, and can be used to measure the area of a plane figure |

volume | the amount of space inside a solid figure. Measured in cubic units, such as cubic inches. |

area | the amount of space inside a closed two-dimensional figure. Measured in square units, such as square centimeters. |

face | a fat surface of a solid space |

rectangular prism | a solid figure with six rectangular faces |

square unit | the area of a unit square |

justify | to prove your answer is correct |

result | the final outcome |

reasonable | fair and sensible |

reason | use what you know to make sense of a problem |

factor | numbers multiplied together |

product | the answer to a multiplication problem |

divisor | a number by which another number is to be divided |

dividend | the value that is divided by another value (divisor) to get a result |

quotient | the answer to a division problem |

remainder | the amount left over after division |
