Unit 1 Vocabulary

| cubic unit | the volume of a unit cube |
| plane figure | a two-dimensional figure, such as a circle, triangle, or rectangle |
| solid figure | a three-dimensional figure |
| unit cube | a cube with side lengths of 1 unit. Said to have one cubic unit of volume, and can be used to measure the volume of a solid figure |
| unit square | a square with side lengths of one unit. Said to have one square unit of area, and can be used to measure the area of a plane figure |
| volume | the amount of space inside a solid figure. Measured in cubic units, such as cubic inches. |
| area | the amount of space inside a closed two-dimensional figure. Measured in square units, such as square centimeters. |
| face | a fat surface of a solid space |
| rectangular prism | a solid figure with six rectangular faces |
| square unit | the area of a unit square |
| justify | to prove your answer is correct |
| result | the final outcome |
| reasonable | fair and sensible |
| reason | use what you know to make sense of a problem |
| factor | numbers multiplied together |
| product | the answer to a multiplication problem |
| divisor | a number by which another number is to be divided |
| dividend | the value that is divided by another value (divisor) to get a result |
| quotient | the answer to a division problem |
| remainder | the amount left over after division |
